Each profile of the state bail laws are outlined according to the following scheme with some variation to fit the state in question:

1. Listing of applicable state statutes and state court rules:

a. Does state or statute court rules also provide for governance by local rules?

2. State licensing requirements for agents:

a. Type(s) of license.

b. Regulatory body.

3. Notice of forfeiture provisions:

a. To the surety.

b. To the agent.

4. Time period between forfeiture notice and payment of forfeiture:

a. Tolling or extension permitted?

5. Forfeiture defenses.

6. Remission period.

7. Bail agent’s arrest authority.

8. Other noteworthy provisions.

9. Noteworthy appellate decisions.

10. Bounty hunter provisions:

 

a. Licensing requirements.

b. Arrest authority.
